Fire tornadoes

Spectacular reminder on how small we are in comparison to the wrath of mother nature. First time I've heard of them, too, and not quite certain what makes the 'fire tornado' different – if at all different – from the more common 'fire whirls'. On looking for a bit more information, I found a decent lay explanation with fabulous pictures – characteristic of National Geographic:
