Apparantly there's a whole class of people who lack fingerprints. Most belong to the masonry profession (cement is notoriously corrosive), but anyone who does a significant amount of manual labour likely has poor, if not no, fingerprints. Now you tell me, how good of an identifying attribute is that?
I recently was fingerprinted for the new ID cards. And my fingerprint quality – despite multiple attempts on multiple fingers – kept triggering the warning message that the fingerprint quality was too poor. Eventually the officials accepted the poor quality fingerprints, saying 'there's been worse.'
