It's nice to see governments finally stand up to corporate bullying, especially when their local economies stand more to lose than gain from the bullying effects.

Indian government sues Monsanto for piracy.

An article in the journal Nature Biotechnology says Monsanto is being sued by the Indian government for something called "biopiracy" — the theft of DNA.

India's National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) is suing Monsanto over eggplant. According to the NBA, Monsanto used an Indian eggplant variety known as brinjal as the foundation for a genetically modified eggplant than can manufacture its own toxic that is poisonous to insects — essentially an eggplant that can make its own insecticide.

The Indian government considers the patenting and sale of GMO foods based on Indian plants a form of theft.
