It is a pity that governments rarely want to learn from each other

I suppose this may have partly to do with ignorance and partly to do with corruption.

If you know me in person, you've probably heard me talk about how Sweden dealt with their great bank bailout in the 90's. I finally just Googled it and, lo and behold, there was an article written up in the NY Times in 2008 about it.

When they faced a financial crisis similar to the United States’ in the early 1990s, Sweden took equity in the banks to protect taxpayers.
