Power, Control, Information, and the Web

By | January 4, 2012
Information = Power is an old concept, and has been that way for a long time. Even the Church understood it in the middle ages (why else did they burn literature?), and social media hasn't changed that. Google hasn't changed that either.

What has changed is the way in which power mongrels gain more power, and that's the third point: "It's about owning the ENTIRE internet." It's about owning the vertical chain in industry (that's not diversifying even if you can market it in that way), and it's about bullying everyone else into letting you get there – only this time, through broken legal and economic systems instead of through brute force combined with religious brainwashing, while convincing people that you're not evil.

Old game, new players, what will happen? Probably nothing different than the last time around. History has a way of repeating itself.
