Very interesting find – add a few lines of bash scripting, and this would also be the quick answer to the question of how many profiles Google+ has.

Forget all this follower count business. How about Profile Zero?

I was curious about Profile discoverability and returned to look at Google's robots.txt file.

There at the bottom are pointers to some sitemaps. The one we're interested in is 'http://www.gstatic.com/s2/sitemaps/profiles-sitemap.xml'

First sitemap entry is

http://www.gstatic.com/s2/sitemaps/sitemap-000.txt

First profiles listed at that URL are

https://profiles.google.com/112006952710949332145
